Vivo- a Chinese based company was launched in 2009. Since then, it has rapidly grown to 100 plus countries gaining popularity day by day. In July 2019, Vivo launched a new series, the S-series. In a market of so many competitors, Vivo has not disappointed the customers and as promised has been pocket-friendly to them. Let’s talk about the most-hyped recent edition to the tech-market. So here I am with the article of vivo s1 review.
The Vivo S1- Latest Edition to Vivo Series
The trend-setting Vivo launched the very first addition to S-series, S1 in late July 2019. This series targets the offline market. Offline market means to notify potential customers about a product that does not involve the use of the Internet. For example, offline marketing includes advertisements on and in public transport, radio, television, press, elevators of apartment houses and offices. Vivo S1 is there for purchase on the offline stores and it will surely be available on the Vivo e-store, Amazon and Flipkart etc. from 14 August 2019.
Coming to discuss the most important part of any gadget, its features. Unique features always attract the consumer. Vivo S1 has its share in the unique features in the world of technology. The new smartphone comes in three amazing colors: Black Gold, Skyline Blue, and the Cosmic Green. These striking colors are the reason people in the market are drooling over this new smartphone. Definitely, the looks of Vivo S1 are way more remarkable than that of other smartphones in the same price range. It surely is the reason why this new smartphone is catching the attention of masses.
A remarkable 6.38-inch (16.21 cm) touchscreen display with a brilliant resolution of 1080×2340 pixels is sure to grasp the attention of masses. This striking combination is ideal for games and videos and promises the ease of viewing. Hence, it is one of the outstanding features of this new smartphone in the tech market. With super AMOLED (what is super Amoled?) display type and aspect ratio of 19.5:9, this smartphone gives the images and videos amazing contrast overall making the image clearer and detailed for viewers. The ultimate capacitive, multi-touch and scratch-resistant display screen with a pixel density of 395 PPI (pixels per inch) adds to an amazing image experience.
Getting to the hardware of VIVO S1, it will surely leave the users in awe. It is the first smartphone to have MediaTek’s Helio P65 processor. The processor is an octa-core with 2GHz, and the CPU is Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 and GPU is Qualcomm Adreno 616, 500 MHz and RAM is 4 GB, 6 GB, 1600 MHz This RAM supports super-fast-processing of the software functions. Other than this, there are two options available for internal storage that are 128GB and 256 GB. That means there is an ample amount of storage available in the smartphone. Moreover, it supports external storage with memory card slots of micro SD, micro SDHC, and micro SDXC. This means there are options available for the users. It is a dual sim (Nano Sim, dual stand-by). There are numerous sensors in VIVO S1 including proximity, light, accelerometer, compass, gyroscope, fingerprint sensors.
Gadgets without a good camera are not as valued as the ones with good cameras. Coming to the highly demanded feature of the consumers, the camera. S1 has a four-camera setup- three at back and one at front. The selfie camera ships with a 32MP sensor with f/2, 0 aperture, whereas the rear camera setup integrates 16MP, 8MP and 2MP sensors with f/1.78, f/2.2 and f/2.4 apertures respectively. Also, it has HD recording too.
With automatic and manual focus the S1 records videos with a resolution of [email protected] In a world of capturing memories, S1 provides the following features Autofocus, Continuous Shooting, Digital Zoom, Dual Camera, Exposure Compensation, Face Detection, Geotagging, HDR, ISO Settings, Optical Zoom, Panorama, Scene Mode, Self-Timer, Touch Focus, White balance settings, and Flagship Sensor. However, when it comes to comparison, S1 has disappointed its users by not being very effective in low-light conditions. The exposure needs to be set for low-lit conditions.
Another excellent feature of latest VIVO S1 is its 3940 mAh, Li-Polymer non-removable battery. It allows fast charging and offers stand-by hours of 132 hours. It allows approximately 17 hours of web-browsing, 84 hours of music, 20 hours of the call, and 5 hours of video recording. The long-lasting battery life makes the user experience better. Because most of us do not want a battery life that can not last long. We want to spend hours surfing on the web, talking on the phone with friends and listening to music without the need to plug a charger into our phone. So, it certainly is the best feature for those who need to use their phone frequently. It prevents the stress of charging the phone every now and then. And the quick charging will obviously save us time.
The communication features of Vivo s1 are WLAN (Wi-Fi Direct, hotspot), Bluetooth (5.0, A2DP, LE), GPS ( A-GPS, GLONASS, GALILEO, BDS), FM Radio, and USB (micro USB 2.0, USB On-the-Go). These feature undoubtedly are available in almost all smartphones nowadays. There are not new things about the communication aspect.
Other built-in features include a torch, 3.55mm Audio Jack, MP4/H.264 player, MP3 player, Speakerphone, HTML5 browser, active noise cancellation with a dedicated mic, Document viewer, Photo/video editor, SMS (threaded view), MMS, Push Mail, and IM.
As compared to the price of S1, Vivo has a higher price because there are innumerable smartphones like RealMe X, Redmi Note 7 Pro available under Rs 20,000 price point and the high price can possibly make it difficult for the Vivo S1 to strive in the competition when all of them offer more features as compared to Vivo S1. Vivo launched two different series at the same time in August 2019. The S-series and the Z-series.
Vivo Z1 Pro vs Vivo S1
The India price of the Vivo S1 starts at Rs 17,990. The question is, should you go for the Vivo S1 or buy Vivo’s Z-series smartphone aka Vivo Z1 Pro instead that comes for starting price of Rs 14,990? Let us discuss.
Vivo S1 has a super AMOLED display whereas Z1 Pro lacks it. However, the screen of Z1 Pro has a higher screen brightness than S1. It can adjust to high exposures to sunlight and still be visible whereas S1 does not give you good visibility in sunlight and even on 100% brightness it is not visible.
Secondly, when it comes to hardware Z1 Pro wins the market as compared to S1. Z1 Pro is India’s first-ever smartphone to have 10mn Qualcomm Snapdragon 712 chipset that supports Adreno 616GPU. In comparison to this S1 is powered by MediaTek Helio P65 octa-core processor. In the performance criteria, Z1 Pro leaves S1 behind.
Moreover, as promised Vivo smartphones have great battery life. They never fail to amaze us with good designs and are light-weighted even with massive batteries. Z1 Pro has a huge battery of 5000mAH as compared to S1’s 4500mAH.
On the other hand, both phones have a huge range of similarities too. For example, Vivo Z1 Pro, as well as the Vivo S1, run FunTouch OS based on Android 9 Pie. Also, both of these phones come with four sets of cameras, three on the back and one on the front. They include face detection security and have fingerprint sensors. They come in different variants. The Vivo S1 variants are — 4GB RAM and 128GB of internal storage, 6GB RAM and 64GB storage and 6GB RAM and 128GB of internal storage. The Vivo Z1 Pro also comes in three variants — 4GB RAM + 64GB storage, 6GB RAM + 64GB storage, and 6GB RAM + 128GB storage.
When it comes to the prices, Z1 Pro amazes the customers with the base model 4GB RAM 64GB storage only at Rs 14990 whereas other variants may rise up to Rs16,990 for 6GB RAM 64GB storage and Rs 18990 for 6GB RAM 128GB storage. Whereas the S1 has the base model Rs 17990 for 4GB RAM 128GB storage. Also, its variants have the following prices; 6GB RAM 64GB storage for Rs18990 and 6GB RAM 128GB storage for Rs 19990.
Which one to buy? Vivo Z1 Pro or Vivo S1.
To have a clear mind, let’s discuss the audience these phones are supposed to target. S1 was launched to target the offline market whereas Z1 Pro has targeted online and offline consumers. To promote the company’s offline market S-series has been launched whereas Z1 Pro tends to grow the popularity of the company through the internet.
I personally prefer Z1 Pro because the S1 seems a little expensive when it is compared to Z1 Pro. It is because there is a huge market by other competitors that have been producing smartphones that are under Rs 20,000 and still having all the latest trends like RealMe and Redmi have all the latest technology in them. When we compare S1 and Z1 Pro they almost have the same features and only that S1 is more stylish and eye-catching and when we are looking for pocket-friendly gadgets with the latest technologies we always would prefer a phone that would have the latest trends and is cheaper. S1 will have more competition in the tech-market due to its price.
Keeping in mind the price and specifications of Vivo S1, it can be fairly concluded that despite creating an upsurge in the tech market, there is a lot that could be improved in this phone as there are better smartphones available in Vivo in the same price range. However, there is absolutely no harm in saying that Vivo S1 has got an unbeatable charm due to its unique colors.
